The 52nd annual Brooks Street Pro-Am Surfing Classic attracted 119 competitors last weekend as ocean temperatures exceeded 70 degrees.

The event, open to Laguna Beach residents, featured competitors in a variety of age groups and included longboard, bodyboard and paddleboard divisions.

Winners in each category included: Grace Fink (girls, 15 and younger); Alisa Schwarzstein Cairns (women, 16 and older); Julian Williams-Goldberg (boys, 13 and younger); Travis Booth (junior men, 14 to 17); Michael Chapman (men’s, 18 to 23); Tyler Stanaland (senior men’s, 24 to 29); Clayton Snyder (masters, 30 to 39); Jeff Booth (senior masters, 40 to 49); Chad Gibbs (grand masters, 50 and older); Goff Stepien (longboard); Dante Madrigal (bodyboard); and Jeremy Shutts (paddleboard).

Jeff Booth also won the Pro-Am division, taking home $1,000.

Destiny Thompson earned the Cy Chambers Award, given to an entrant who excels in surfing, sportsmanship and academics. Nate Madigan received the Thom Chambers Award, which recognizes an entrant who excels in surfing and the arts.

The contest was held later than prior years because organizers waited for swells to reach certain heights.

The city is selling contest T-shirts — large and extra-large sizes — for $20 in the community services department at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave.
