Dennis Bogle (August 1, 2012)

Dennis Bogle took over as the city's new Building Official on Monday.

Bogle, 50, most recently was the chief building inspector and manager in Newport Beach for the past three years. Before that, he spent nine years as the Building Official in Mission Viejo.

"I came to Laguna because this is a beautiful city and a wonderful opportunity," Bogle said.

Bogle filled the vacancy left by Carl Hefner, who resigned in April after less than three months on the job, with no explanation by city officials.

Hefner, a certified building official, had been selected from a field of 65 applicants, according to a city document. He had more than 25 years of experience in the industry and had previously worked in Sacramento, Davis and San Jose.

Bogle has a bachelor's degree in public administration, associate of science degrees in architectural design drafting and building code technology. He is certified by CALBO, the California Building Officials nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public health and safety in building construction.

He is also certified by the International Code Council as a building official, plans examiner, California plans examiner, CALGreen inspector and plans examiner and by the Certified Access Specialist program.

"I am very excited to have Dennis come on board and I am looking forward to continuing the efforts to improve customer service in the building division," City Manager John Pietig said.
