Future Broadway stars can take the stage with a children's theater-version of an Emmy Award-winning cartoon.

No Square Theatre's Square Roots is accepting applications for its winter musical theater camp for kids which will culminate in the production of "School House Rock Live! Jr." a play based on the 1970s cartoon about grammar, history, politics, math and science.

The play will follow a young teacher as he prepares for his first day and will feature well-known songs, like "Three Is a Magic Number," "Just a Bill," and "Conjunction Junction."

The program is limited to 35 participants and is open to children ages 5 to 13 of all levels of acting.

Children should prepare a short song — one verse and one chorus — and bring an accompaniment track or sheet music in the correct key to auditions, which will take place at the first rehearsal, Dec. 6.

The performance will be directed and choreographed by Ella Wyatt with musical direction by Joe Lauderdale.

Rehearsals run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays starting Dec. 6., with no rehearsals Dec. 27, Jan. 3 and Feb. 21 at the No Square Theatre in Historic Legion Hall, 384 Legion St. Dress rehearsals are March 5 to 7. Performances run on March 8 to 9, 15 to 16. Cost is $350 per child. More information is at http://www.nosquare.org.
