Eighty-seven students graduated from the Laguna College of Art + Design, and an honorary doctorate was conferred on sculptor Richard MacDonald, during a commencement ceremony Monday.

Seventy-seven students earned bachelor’s degrees in drawing and painting, animation, design and digital media, illustration and game art, and 10 earned master’s degrees in drawing or painting, according to a news release.

Bryn Mooser, an award-winning documentary filmmaker and humanitarian, gave the commencement speech. He directed three award-winning films: “Sun City Picture House,” “The Rider and the Storm” and “Baseball in the Time of Cholera.”

Mooser previously collaborated with LCAD design and digital media design students to create aid kits for children affected by natural disasters.

LCAD recognized MacDonald for his “dedication to the pursuit of excellence in representational figurative sculpture,” the release said. MacDonald is an instructor and the honorary chair of the school’s figuration-centered sculpture department.
