School district tennis courts, pool closing for repairs

Share

Two Laguna Beach High School tennis courts will be closed for the next two months so crews can replace a failing retaining wall that abuts a slope, according to a city news release.

Workers will replace the current cinder block wall that borders court No. 6 with one of concrete and push the slope back to control runoff, said Jeff Dixon, facilities director for the Laguna Beach Unified School District. Court No. 4 must be closed to allow workers access to the retaining wall and slope.

Portions of the sidewalk and on-street parking along Park Avenue will also be closed during construction, the release said.

As soon as that project is complete, the district will close five of the six tennis courts for resurfacing.

City and district officials agreed earlier this year on a project that includes sandblasting existing tennis court surfaces, replacing damaged concrete, repairing cracks, installing new vinyl-coated fences with windscreens, and leveling existing slabs to improve drainage.

The adjacent community pool is also undergoing repairs and will be closed through June 10.

The two buildings in the pool area will get fresh paint and new trim. Locker-room floor tiles will be replaced with concrete, and new sinks and lights will be installed.

The city and district each contribute money toward facilities costs through a joint-use agreement.
