Teachers and superintendent get raises
Teachers in the Laguna Beach Unified School District will receive a 4% pay hike next year, the board unanimously decided Tuesday night in voting to ratify an agreement with the Laguna Beach Unified Faculty Assn.
In a separate motion, the board approved a 4% salary raise for Supt. Sherine Smith.
The district is earmarking for the 2015-16 school year $670,896 in salaries and an additional $94,128 in health and retirement benefits for its 164 teachers, made possible from increased property tax revenue, according to a district staff report.
The average salary for a district teacher will be $106,362.
Smith’s salary will increase by $9,500 to $243,500.
