Laguna Beach police believe a woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes, sending her car through a fenced barrier and into the first floor of an apartment building Friday morning.

Laguna Beach police and fire officials arrived at 11:44 a.m. at 235 Lower Cliff Drive near Broadway Street and Jahraus Park to extract the woman from the car.

She was not injured but had to be cut from her Mercedes because of the extensive damage it received, Laguna Beach police Capt. Jason Kravetz said in an email. She was not taken to a hospital, he said.

The Fire Department was still trying to remove the Mercedes from the building as of 1:15 p.m. Friday, Kravetz said.

Police are still investigating.

The cost of the damage to the building was unknown.
