Sign up for emergency alerts, Laguna officials urge residents

Share

Laguna Beach police are urging residents to register phone numbers and email addresses into a countywide system that would advise them during emergencies.

AlertOC, the county’s mass notification system, enables residents to immediately learn of any required actions, such as evacuations.

On Sept. 24, more than 2 million county residents will receive a call to test AlertOC. The drill will replicate a multi-jurisdictional emergency.

The distinctive feature of AlertOC is the ability to register more than one contact method at a specific address.

Registrations of cellphone and alternate numbers dramatically increase the ability to reach the greatest number of community members within minutes, according to a news release. Landlines, cell phones, text numbers and email addresses can be incorporated into a single notification system, the release added.
