District to hold study session on superintendent search

Share

The Laguna Beach Unified School District board will hold a study session on Sept. 29 regarding the search for a new superintendent.

Residents are encouraged to attend and suggest desired qualities for the successor to Supt. Sherine Smith, who announced earlier this year that she would retire next June.

The session, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the district office, at 550 Blumont St., will be the first of several meetings held to gather public input. Kathy Kessler, Huntington Beach City School District’s former superintendent, will facilitate the meeting.

Laguna’s school board is expected to issue a request for proposals from interested search firms in October, according to a news release.

Trustees will evaluate proposals and conduct interviews. The chosen search firm will work closely with the board to identify and choose the “most highly qualified superintendent,” the release says.

Trustees are expected to select a new superintendent by next spring.
