In the past few years, the Laguna Beach High football program has come up with several "firsts."
On Monday, the Breakers added another one to an already impressive list.
Five members of the football team have been selected to the 2012 All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division Football Team. It's the most players, in a single year, in school history that Laguna has placed on a Southern Section team.
The previous high had been two Laguna players named All-CIF in a single season named All-CIF, and that happened on five occasions.
Named to the elite club this year is two-way lineman Spencer Anderson, receiver/special teams player/cornerback Robert Clemons, linebacker/offensive guard Blake Hester, running back/defensive back Drake Martinez, and defensive back/kicker Robbie McInerny.
Anderson (line), Clemons (wide receiver) and Martinez (running back) were named to the offensive team. Hester (LB) and McInerny (DB) were named to the defensive team.
Laguna now has 40 All-CIF players in its 78-year varsity football history.
"Their selection reflects all the hard work and dedication these kids have put into the program, not just this year, but for the last two years," said Mike Churchill, who coached the Breakers the last two seasons. "They are the heart and soul of this football team."
