The Laguna Beach High boys' basketball team went to 2-0 on the season and also at the Godinez Invitational by handling Orange Wednesday , 65-36, at Loara High in Anaheim.
Jake Dalke led the scoring with 16 points. Noah Blanton scored 11 points, Cole Kesler had 10 points and Josh Adams posted seven points.
Every Breaker played and scored in the game.
"Pretty sloppy first half, but [we] played better in the second [half]," Laguna Coach Bret Fleming said.
The win advanced Laguna to the Gold bracket of the tournament. The Breakers played Cypress Thursday (Nov. 29) in a first-round bracket game. The score wasn't available at press time.
The Breakers opened the tournament Monday and defeated Savanna, 58-44. Kesler led the way with 17 points. Dalke scored 13 points and Blanton had 10 points.
The tournament continues through Saturday . Next week, the Breakers play host to Dana Hills in a 7 p.m. nonleague game on Wednesday .
The Breakers, winless a year ago, started their new season with a bang as they ran past Connelly, 60-11. Madeline Knutson, Jackie Cenan and Alexandra Lewis scored 11 points apiece.
"The girls played an all-around balanced game and really got after it tonight," second-year Laguna Coach Mark Lewis said. "It was a good team effort as is evidenced by the fact that everyone played and the scoring was spread throughout the team.
"The team has been working hard for quite some time and it was good to see the hard work paying off on the court. I am happy for the girls and the program."
We open next week's tourney against the host school, Oxford Academy, at 3:00 p.m. We follow that up with a game on Tuesday against Bethel Baptist at 4:30. After that, it is bracket play, so we won't know what time our next game is but it is on Thursday.
The Breakers play host to Sage Hill at 6 p.m. Friday . They begin play next Monday at the Oxford Academy Patriot Tournament in Cypress. They'll take on Bethel Baptist in a 4:30 p.m. first-round game.
Girls' Water Polo
The Breakers opened their season Wednesday against Dana Hills and defeated the visiting Dolphins, 11-5. They outscored the Dolphins, 4-0, in the fourth quarter, to pull away.
Lexi Del Toro scored a game-high four goals with two assists and three steals. Sydney Saxe scored twice and had three assists and three steals and Mackenzie Baldridge also scored twice and had two assists. Brighid Burnes, (three steals), Kate Magnuson and Ally Jochim each scored once and Daniela Lucidi had nine saves.
The Breakers travel Wednesday to face Santiago of Corona in a 3:15 p.m. nonleague game.
